GOVERNMENT/LEGAL ISSUES:
Internet Tax Bill Gets NAR Nod
NAR supports legislation to help states collect sales and use taxes on purchases made over the Internet. The bill's aim is to level the tax-collection playing field between brick-and-mortar businesses and Internet sellers. NAR, along with coalition partners, sent a letter supporting "The Marketplace Fairness Act" as part of budget legislation.
USDA Implements Existing Rural Definition
Extension of the existing definition of rural communities for purposes of federal home mortgage eligibility is implemented in a U. S. Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development notice, Administrative Notice 4711. The notice defers using 2010 Census information until the end of the fiscal year. NAR supports extending the definition to protect hundreds of rural communities from losing eligibility under the Rural Housing Service.
